Dholpur

Introduction: Originated from the word ‘Dhaulpur’ the district of Dholpur emerged as a separate district in the year 1982. Located in the eastern part of the state the district is bordered by Bharatpur border and Uttar Pradesh border in the north, south by the state of Madhya Pradesh, west by Karaulli district, and east by portionof Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

With the geographical area of 3,034 sq.km the district is divided into four sub divisions and four development blocks known as: Dholpur, Bari, Baseri and Rajakhera. Geographically the district lies at 260 to 26057' N longitude and 77014' to 78016' E latitude.

Dholpur (or Dhaulpur) is famous for its excellent sandstone. This red sandstone was used for building not just the local structures but also famous monuments like Red Fort in Delhi.

Some of the worth visiting places in and around the district are: Laswari, Shergarh Fort, The Khanpur Mahal, The Shiva Temple, Machchhkund , Ramsagar Sanctuary, Talab-E-Shahi and Van Vihar Wild Life Sanctuary etc.
