Introduction
: Recognized as an entry gate to the great Thar Desert, Chrur is located in the deserted area of Rajasthan. Located at  28º 18' N latitude and 74º 58' E longitude. It is bounded by Sri Ganganagar district in the North, by Sikar and Jhunjhunun and Hissar district of Haryana in the East, by Nagaur in the South and in the West by Bikaner. Churu, like an oasis, situated in the middle of the shifting golden sand dunes, opens the gate to the great desert of Thar.

The north bordered is neighbour of  Hanumangarh District, east by Haryana state, Jhunjhunun and Sikar districts to the southeast, Nagaur District to the south, and Bikaner District to the west. The district covers 6 tehsils Churu, Ratangarh, Taranagar, Rajgarh, Sardarshahar, and Sujangarh. The major attraction of Churu district are its Havellies.

History: It is believed that the town was founded by the Jat ruler Chuhru in 1620 A.D and the place was named as Churu after his name in the Jangladesh region of the state. before it came under the control of Rajput rulers of Rathore clan. Thakur Maldeo, the grandson of Rao Kandhal or Rawat Kandhal and uncle of Rao Bika, the Rathore Rajputs of Bikaner ruled over the region.

During war of 1871 between Bikaner and Churu, the area came under the dominance of Bikaner. It is said that during the war between both the regions all the weapons made by copper and  brass got finished, the Churu Thakur requested all the women population of his town to donate their silver ornaments so that the shells made by silver can be utilized for cannons.

Before independence it was an integral part of Bikaner princely state. In 1948 the district came into existence as a separate state comprising three tehsils Churu, Taragarh and Rajgarh.

Tourist Destinations: Churu is the place of historical importance. While passing through the streets having traditional havellies on both side of road one can feel the glory of past history of the district. The district has few famous tourist destinations which are like an important treasures hidden in the arms of district.

Salasar Balaji: Salasar is the place in Churu district famous for Hanumanji’s temple. It is said that being happy by the adorence of Shri Mohan Das Mahraj, lord Hanumanji, most worshipped Hindu God known as the God of strength, appeared in the form of a statue on Saturday, Shrawan Sukla Navami, V.S. 1811 at Asota village. After which the status was brought to salasar and the statue was established in a temple. With the passing time the temple gained the fame not only in the Rajasthan but devotees from all over the world visit this temple every day, and get their wishes fulfilled.

Ratangarh:  The fort of Ratangarh was built by by the Raja of Bikaner- Ratan Singh in 1820 A.D is located on the Agra-Bikaner highway.  The market is designed depicts that the city was properly designed before its construct. The major attraction is series of traditional Havellies.

Kothari and Surana Haveli: The architecture of traditional havellies is the major attraction for every one visiting the shekhawati region of Rajasthan. Some of these havellies have got themselves recognized as the pride for state. Construct by two richest jain merchants of region, Kothari and Surana clans, the havellies were constructed in 1925 and 1870s.  

Black Buck Sanctuary Tal Chhapar: Famous for black deers, the black buck sanctuary is located in churu district of north western Rajasthan. The other wild animals found in sanctuary are chinkara, fox, juangle cat, rojra and also various birds of local and migratory species.

Prior to 1962 the area of tal chhapar was kept as the game place for the erstwhile Maharaja of Bikaner state and in 1962 he declared as the place reserved for the protection of wild animals and birds. During the month of September various birds from all over the world come into this region for breeding.
