Sriganganagar

Introduction: Inspired from the architecture of city Paris, the design of Sriganganagar was planned and is one of the planned city of India. Located in the northern part of the Rajasthan, the district borders starts at the point where river Satluj enters the state of Rajasthan. The languages spoken are Bangri and Punjabi.

The geographical area of the district is 11154.66 square kilometers. The district is located at Latitude 28'40 to 30.60 and Longitude 72.20 to 75.30 .

History: The history of the district goes back to erstwhile district of Bikaner when it was the part of Bikaner. The district is named after the ruler of Bikaner Maharaja Ganga Singh. The architect of the city reveals the foresight vision of Maharaja Ganga Singh who laid the construction of  Gang canal as the part of famine relief work during the famine of 1899 to 1900 year. In the year 1927, water of Satlaj was brought into the district by 89 miles long gang canal.

District is recognized as one of the richest district not only of Rajasthan but of India.

Tourist Destinations: The major attraction of the Sriganganagar district is Gang canal which flows in the district and the banks of this canal at various places are developed as beautiful tourist destinations. There are many places around city, like Teen-Puliya(three bridges)which are mostly visited by local residents on week ends and holidays. Other famous spots are Shivpur-head and Sadhuwali-head.

The best time to visit is during February to March when Mustard fields are covered with yellow flowers, and during October to November when Cotton fields are covered with White Cotton.

There are many religious places which are very famous, the famous Gurudwara of Sri Budha-johd is one of them and which is 85 km south west of the city.

Sri Jagadamba Andh MahaVidyalya: Is famous institute for education of the Blind and said to be one of the biggest education institutes of visually, hearing and speech impaired people in India. The ruins of the Harappa, Mahanjodaro and Kalibangan civilizations are found in Baror Village which is on Anupgargh Ramsinghpur road .
