Nagaur

Introduction: Located at 26.250 & 27.400 North Latitude & 73.100 & 75.150 East Longitude. The district of Nagaur is surrounded by  seven districts Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur. Nagaur is the fifth largest district of Rajasthan in terms of geographical area. Famous for the  birth place of Meera and Abul Fazal, Nagaur is also known for charbhuja and Parsawanath Temple at Merta and the Dargah of Sufi Saint Tarkin at Nagaur city.

History: The history goes back to period of Mahabharta, when Arjun captured the area of  Ahichhatrapur and presented it to his guru Dronacharya. The area of Ahichhatapur came under the area of present Nagaur.

Before becoming an independent district Nagaur was an integral part of erstwhile princely state Jodhpur.  For the first time Nagaur came into the picture when on 2nd October 1959, First Prime Minister of India, Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru launched the process of Democratic Decentralization.

The other important place of historic importance in the district is Ladnu, which is famous headquarter of Jain Bishwa Bharti. The place has developed as a center of spiritual learning under auspice of great jain said Acharya Tulsi, who developed the philosophy of ‘Anuvrat’.

Tourist Destinations: The major tourist destinations of Nagaur are:

Nagaur Fort – Constructed in 2nd century is located in the center of the city. It is a Sandy fort and evidence of  many battles. The fort has spacious campus, many palaces & temples inside.

Tarkeen Dargah - Most renowned after the Ajmer Dargah; sacred place for Muslims & Sufis.

Jain Temple in Glass - Is sacred place for the Jain community.

Saiji ka Tanka - Samadhi of a renowned saint is the mark of simplicity & truthfulness with  symbol of communal fraternity.

Besides this there are various visiting place in various places of Nagaur district namely at Khinvsar; Jayal; Merta; Kuchaman City;  Makarana ; Ladnun.
