History: The history of Kota goes back to 12th century A.D. when Bundi and Hadoti states were founded by Hada ruler, Rao Deva by capturing the region. Later during the throne of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, the Bundi ruler Rao Ratan Singh presented the throne of Kota to his son Madho Singh in 17th century. This laid the corner stone of the establishment of Kota. Which later on became as an identification of the pride of Rajputs.
The Hadoti region of Rajasthan which falls in the south eastern portion of Rajasthan has four districts under it namely; Bundi, Baran, Jhalawa and Kota, all these districts have golden history behind their establishment. The historic caves, paintings, forts, river chambal are few illustrations which speak the glory of Kota’s history. The then ruler of Bundi Jait Singh conquered the area by defeating Bhil ruler Koteya in the battle. However, the original development of Kota flourished when Rao Madho Singh got its throne. Due to his hard initiative Kota soon became more powerful then compared to its parental state.
It would important to mention the name of Maharao Bhim Singh here, who played a magnificent role in the history of Kota. He was the first Maharao who was honored as ‘Mansab’.
Undoubtedly the state of Kota flourished during the reign of Rao Madho Singh, but the contribution of Kotya Bhil could not be forgot. He was the real designer of Kota who captured the area 800 years ago and constructed a small fort in Akelgarh and developed a mud wall for its protection. However, after gaining the throne in 1580, Rao Madho Singh carried his initiatives forward to make Kota as ‘Hallmark” of Rajputs power and culture.
