History: There exists lacunae regarding the history of establishment of Jhunjhunu. However going through the erstwhile history of Rajasthan it can be said that Jhunjhunu would have also been the palace of Rajput rulers who were famous for their fights to establish their dominance in particular area.
The records available reveals that the princely state was under the control of rajputs of Chauhan clan who were always engaged in wars to strengthen their power in the region. however, in 1450 the mughal ruler Mohammed Khan and his son Samas Khan defeated the Chauhans and captured Jhunjhunu under their control. Since then the administration came under the control of Nawabs. The rule of the nawabs was demolished in 1730 when Shardul Singh occupied Jhunjhunu.
Shardul Singh is regarded as one of the greatest diplomat and administrator in the history of Rajasthan. After his death his empire was divided into his five sons and their administration was known as ‘Panchpana’.
