Bhilwara

Introduction:
Located between 25°.00' to 27°.50' North Latitude and 74°.03' to 75°.25' East Longitude and 100 meters above the sea level.  The district is covered by District Ajmer in the north-west, the Udaipur and Rajsamand districts cover the west and south west borders of the district respectively. The north and north east is surrounded by Bundi and Tonk districts. The south and south east locations are covered by Chittorgarh district. The length from west to east is 144 km, whereas the breadth from north to south is 104 kms.

The district is recognized as the Textile city of Rajasthan. It is bounded in the north by Ajmer District, in the north-west, west and south west by Udaipur and Rajasamand districts. In the south and south south-east by chittorgarh district. In the east and north east by Bundi and Tonk districts. The total length of the district from west to east is 144 km. while the breadth from North to south is 104 km approximately.

History:
There is not much historic evidence besides the establishment of Bhilwara district. The historical records witness that because the area was dominated by the ‘Bhils’ community. Bhils were the people of tribal community.

The other records witness that the city had mints that minted coins which were called as ‘BHILADI’ and from this the name of Bhilwara came up.

With the coming period various textile industries were established in the district and now the district is more known as Textile city, rather than know for other practiced beliefs related to Bhils or Bhiladi coins.

Tourist Destinations:

The important tourist destination in the district are: Asind, Gangapur, Shahpura, Mandalgarh, Pur, Badnore Fort, Mandal Town, Temples of Bijoliya.

Asind: It is famous for its temples located on the banks of Khari, constructed by Sawai bhoj. The early rulers holding the title of Rawat, had seventy two villages under their control.

Gangapur: Is a municipal town and the headquarter of Sahara tehsil. Earlier it was the part of Gwalior state before independence, now situated in Madhya Pradesh.

Shahpura: The control of erstwhile princely state Shahpura was under the control of rajputs of Sisodia clan. The place is also famous as pilgrimage for followers of Ram Snehi community. The name of their sacred place is called as ‘Ramdwara’. The annual fair of the community ‘Phool Dal’ is celebrated every here for five days on the basis of Hindu calendar Phalgun Shukla 15 ( March-April).

Mandalgarh: Is located 54 kms away from Bhilwara. According to muslim historians the place is evident of severe wars during medieval period. The most eye catching visionary of the place is Menal water falls in the heart of nature.

Pur: Pur is famous for Udan Chatri, Adhar Shila , and Patola Mahadev. The place is situated 10 kms from the district headquarter. The Gata Rani Mandir is being constructed by the Bhilwara Municipal Corporation.

Temples of Bijoliya: Close to the borders of Bundi District, the city of Bijoliya is located in the South east of Bhilwara district. In ancient times it was recognized as Vindhyavali. The series of five temples dedicated to Parsvanth are located in Mandakni Baori. According to historic records the Jain temples were constructed  by  Mahajan Lala in the time of the Chauhan Raja Someshwar of Ajmer in 1170 AD.

Connectivity

Air: Nearest Airport to Bhilwara is “Dabok Airport” at Udaipur which is about 160 kms away from Bhilwara.

Rail: A meter gauge railway line measuring 84 kms, connects Ajmer with Khandwa and passes through the district. A broad gauge line has also been laid from Kota to Chittorgarh which passes through the district at Mandalgarh.

Road: Bhilwara falls on the Jaipur-Udaipur State Highway. It is well connected by bus from different towns and cities of the state.
