Overview

“Healthy citizens are an asset to the nation”
                                                 -
Mahatama Gandhi

“If money is lost nothing is lost, If health is lost some thing is lost”

“Healthy soul prevails in healthy body”

All these quotes are good enough to describe the importance of health in human life. The ill health deficits the working ability of the person this results in the slow growth of the nation.  Therefore, good health is given priority by every government at national and international fora. This can be better understood from the national policies of every nation where food security is regarded as the prime responsibility of every government. Thus, the above quote by Mahatama Gandhi seems to be quite relevant in the context of national development.

The government of India is quite concerned towards the better health of its citizens and to achieve this objective various programmes viz., National Rural Health Mission , Aids control programmes, mid-day meal programmes etc, are initiated by government from time to time.

The state of Rajasthan is fortunate that every ruling government gave an equal importance to health development programmes and successfully initiated various programmes started by the government of India.

The major health controlling body in the state is Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Rajasthan under which various autonomous health institute operate. The major being State Institute of Health and Family Welfare which implements various health programmes in the state. Apart from this Voluntary Health Association of India also operates its health oriented programmes in the state. VHAI also monitors the progress of various health progammes initiated in the state by the government.

RVHA implemented a programme on Malaria Control, named “Village Contact Campaign” in collaboration with State Malaria Control Society, Rajasthan Health and Family Welfare Department.  The major thrust of the programme is to focus on the most affected 994 villages of Kishanganj of District Baran, Asnavar of Jhalawar District, Dhariyavad of Udaipur District and Pokharan of Jaisalmer District.

At present the major health programme implemented by the government of Rajasthan is National Rural Health Mission which aims at providing better health facilities to the vulnerable section of society in the rural and urban slum areas.
